This post is a collection of Fall moonshine recipes.
What Is Moonshine?
Moonshine, also known as hooch, is a term used for high-proof distilled alcohol that people usually made secretly at night because it was illegal. It was made in back room distilleries and it sometimes was even made in peoples bathtubs. Without any government oversight though, there was no control over the resulting product or how it was made.
Moonshine likely came to the United States in the early 1800’s. It was particularly prominent in the Appalachian mountain region. Most Americans think of it as a drink brought about by the prohibition era that started in 1920 but it had been around for over one hundred years before that.
The making of moonshine is now perfectly legal and has even become a popular commercial product sold in most liquor licensed establishments all over the country.
